Parents

All first-time, first-year, degree-seeking students are required to attend and participate in Welcome Week activities.  Your student won't want to miss out on getting a jumpstart on their college experience!  If your student is in CEHD, CFANS, or CBS he or she will be enrolled in a class that includes Welcome Week activities, which are required in course content.

Students who attend Welcome Week will begin to:

  • Build a sense of community among the Class of 2012
  • Adjust to campus environment, life, and diverse culture
  • Develop meaningful relationships with faculty, staff, community members and other students
  • Discover and access a multitude of resources

While you and your student are currently preparing for New Student Orientation, there are some things you can do to assist your student in preparing for Welcome Week as well.

Ways you can support your student!

Although Welcome Week activities are for students only, there are many ways you can support them:

  • Mark the calendar now for Welcome Week (August 27-September 1, 2008)
  • Stop in at a Parent Event to get last minute questions answered (August 26 6:30-8pm & August 27 9am-3pm)
  • Talk to your student about what activities they are participating in during Welcome Week, an overview of the schedule is available
  • Encourage students to select their Welcome Week activities online by August 15. They will receive information on how to do this at the end of July.
