Orientation & First-Year Programs is looking for the majority of the service projects to occur during the hours of 12:00pm and 5:00pm on Sunday, August 31, 2008. If your organization would like to propose a service project earlier in the day please submit your proposal as we have flexibility to schedule a limited number of projects earlier in the day.
We are in need of enough service opportunities for 5,000 new students and 500 student leaders. We encourage you to propose a service project no matter how large or small of a group may work on the project. The number of students that can participate in your project will be capped at a number provided by your organization.
The University of Minnesota will provide transportation for all students participating in a volunteer opportunity. Depending on the location of the work site students will be taking either public transportation or by chartered busses. If you are able to provide transportation please indicate this on your project proposal.
If you are worried about being able to staff a project, a Welcome Week Leader will accompany every 15 new students at each project. A number of other community agencies have volunteered their staff to assist with projects on an as needed basis.
We are looking for projects that can benefit your organization and the people it serves that can be hosted on campus as well! Welcome Week Leaders can staff these projects on campus, and a finished product can be delivered to you the following week!
If a short training or information session is needed prior to students working on your project please include this in your proposal. The time and location can be arranged either at the project site or before students leave campus.
You can submit a service project idea online.
