A key element of Welcome Week is to raise awareness of various communities that students have access to while cultivating an awareness of individual responsibility to the greater community. Non-profit organizations and Neighborhood Associations are invited to participate as community partners by hosting service projects during Welcome Week.
To raise awareness of the need for student engagement in the Twin Cities, one goal of Welcome Week is to have the entire incoming class take part in community service projects. The Orientation & First-Year Programs office is currently looking for area non-profit and community organizations that would be willing to host a service project for the class of 2012 (over 5,000 students). Our goal is to have the entire incoming class participate in some form of community service on Sunday, August 31st. Transportation too and from projects will be provided as needed. We realize that staffing a project on a Sunday is difficult for some organizations, so we challenge you to propose a project benefiting your organization and those you help that can be done on campus.
